The Matawan Historical Society is conducting its first annual tour of the “Historical Churches of Matawan” on Sunday, April 23rd at 1:30 pm. There is no charge to attend this event.

Established in 1686, Matawan’s inception came from seeking religious freedoms from the Church of England. It led to various congregations, who chose Matawan as their first home in the “New World.”

This self-guided tour will begin with a kick-off event at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan (FPC), located at 883 State Route 34 Matawan, NJ 07747.

Learn how Matawan’s history is intertwined with Historic Churches: First Presbyterian, St. James AME Zion, Trinity Episcopal, First Baptist, Second Baptist, and Matawan United Methodist Church
